In case you are interested, here is how I get the roof overhang to look so skinny. The TJI wood joists are 14" deep. I have to infill the web with two layers of 7/16" OSB and then can sister on the 5-1/2" LVL rafter tail to the OSB filled joist web. It's a lot of work, but I think the overall effect is worth it.
